Pray 4 Matthew

A Reflection in the Life of Matthew

                            August 15th, 11:47 AM From Matty’s Grandmoo

To all our Dear Family and Friends,

First I want to thank all of you who are keeping Matthew in your thoughts and prayers.  We are really seeing what the power of prayer can do thru Matthew.  If you have not heard, our little Matthew (13 months old) has been in a deep coma since last Monday night {08/08/05).  He had a terrible accident.  At this time he is breathing on his own with the assistance of a respirator.  We are all praying that shortly they will be able to remove it and let him do all his own breathing.  Matthew is being fed thru a tube at this time.  The Dr.'s are telling us we will just need to wait and take a day at a time since he is doing things we were told he would never do again.  Our family has a strong faith and believes in miracles.  We have put Matthew solely in the LORDS hands.  We all know that there is nothing impossible when it is the LORDS will to heal him.  Thru this week I was lead to a verse in the bible that has really given me a little peace.  I would like to share it with you.

 JEREMIAH 29:11-14

For I know the plans I have for you says the LORD.  "They are plans for good and not disaster, to give you a future and a hope.  In those days when you pray I will listen.  If you look for me in earnest you will find me when you seek me.  I will be found by you," says the LORD.  "I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes.  I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and bring you home again to your own land."

Our son, Bryan, is having some cards printed with Matthew's picture and a beautiful prayer on the inside.  We are asking everyone we come in contact with to please keep Matthew in their prayers.  If you would like us to send you some please let us know.  On the back of the card will be a Web site for Matthew and also an email address so if you would like to send a message to his Mom or Dad, (Dawnise or Sean), you will be able to.  Sean is in the process of getting that all set up.

I will try to send you a little update whenever possible.  I have not been at the house much and when I do get home I am either trying to sleep or have had my three other precious grandkids with me.  I want to again thank all of you that our praying for Matthew and the rest of us as I can assure you the prayers are being felt.  Please do not let up on your prayers as Matthew's healing will take some time.

Please excuse any typos or spelling errors as I am not checking for them at this time.

Take care and God Bless.

Love, Char and Ole

                                          August 18th, 11:59 AM From Matty’s Grandmoo

Dear Family and Friends,

Ole and I just returned from visiting our little Matthew.  Today was such a good day that I must get this email update off to all of you right away.  Yesterday he had surgery to at approximately 4:30 P.M. to have a tracheotomy put in.  This was done in hopes of being able to remove him completely from the respirator.  We are all rejoicing as Matthew has been totally breathing on his own all day today without any type of equipment.  His blood pressure has been up a little but that is to be expected.  Tonight they removed the IV that they had to put in his head for the surgery, so as of right now the only thing he is depending on is the feeding tube.

Now for some really GREAT NEWS.  Tonight I was able to hold Matthew for almost 2 hours.  I can't tell you how special that was for me.  Within in the next week or so they are hoping to put the feeding tube into his stomach.  They will take another surgery.  Matthew is one little fighter.

We cannot thank you all enough for all of your prayers.  We are certainly seeing and feeling the power of prayer at work.

Please continue to keep Matthew in prayer as he still has a long haul ahead of him, however, we are rejoicing over every little improvement as it takes place as we know it is the Lord putting his healing hands on Matthew.

Today I was also able to go out and buy a new outfit for Matthew as they told us we could start putting clothes on him.  I took my two granddaughters with me, I can not tell you how excited I was.  We have to be careful on the clothes we get now as they need to have an opening in the front. When we got him dressed, the nurse seemed a little surprised at the outfit I had for him.  I guess they were expecting me to come with some type of PJ's for him.  Oh well maybe I am trying to get ahead of the game, however, they smiled and said the outfit was fine and how cute he looked in it.

Matthew will be in the hospital at least three more weeks as we will all need to be trained for the type of care he will need when he comes home.  Please pray that we will all be given the strength and knowledge it will take to bring him home.

We are so blessed to have such a wonderful family and friends as we have.

Take care and God Bless till next update.

Love, Charlotte and Ole

August 20th, 11:00 PM From Matty’s Dadda.

Dear Friends and Family,

The last 24 hours has been a little rough for Matty, It started when they switched him to another room on the other side of PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) Friday afternoon since at the time he was the most stable child in the PICU. However, Matthew did not much appreciate the change of surroundings. His blood pressure started to go up and the medical staff ruined his feeding tube during the transfer. What made matters worse is the Doctor on the other side of PICU where Matthew was transferred over to had refused to reinsert his feeding tube back into him. Luckily my mother-in-law Charlotte Olson (AKA Grandmoo) was on hand to help find a competent doctor to re-insert Matthew’s feeding tube.

Latter that Friday evening they had decided again to move Matthew back to the side of ICU that he had been before, expect this time they put him in a much nosier atmosphere than were he had been before. This once again caused his blood pressure to go up and he was rejecting the feeding tube that they had put in him that afternoon. My wife, bless her soul stayed up with him the who night fighting the battle of trying to keep his blood pressure down and Matthew not to vomit is food.

Right at Saturday afternoon we were able to finally get the on staff doctor express our worries and concern over Mathew’s change of health that was somewhat willing to listen to us. The finally took out the feeding tube that was giving him problems out and work on his blood pressure a bit.

Grandmoo came buy to give Dawnise a break so she could take a shower and take care of some things back at the house. Luckily she was their (She also has full consent to act on our behalf) the Doctor who was to put Matthew’s new feeding tube in was the one that had refused to re-insert his feeding tube before. Grandmoo expressed our concerns and our feeling about this and had a more competent doctor re-insert his new feeding tube into Matthew’s tummy.

Matthew was moved one more time this evening to a quieter part of the PICU. His blood pressure is more stable and he is not rejecting the feeding tube at this time. I am praying that both Matthew and Momma have a better night this evening.

Again, Thanks for all your thoughts and Prayers.

Sean

August 21st, 11:00 PM From Matty’s Dadda.

Dear Friends and Family,

Things went a little better last night until approximately 9AM this morning when once again Matthew was vomiting his food from the feeding tube. Along with this due from the vomit he may have received an infection. He has also started running a higher temperature again as well. Normally they would have started him on antibiotics right away but since his veins are so small the doctor on call had to insert a “line” in him so he could start receiving the antibiotics.

He is also scheduled again for surgery at 10AM, Monday Morning as well to insert a permanent feeding tube in his tummy so he can receive his food and medicine directly. But depending on how he does tonight will probably depend if he will still have the surgery tomorrow.

Dawnise (Momma) and Charlotte (Grandmoo) have both been at his side today, I unfortunately had stuff that I needed to get done at the house. However both Momma and Grandmoo have kept me inform of his status.

Momma was given a chance to get out of the hospital tonight so she could take a shower, have something to eat, and see her oldest son Stew-Glenn. One of the members of our church (Gigi) brought Dawnise back after she had visited Matthew herself.

I just brought her back to the hospital and was able to see Matthew myself to let him know how much I love him. I am praying if it is God’s will that Matthew will be able to have the operation he needs in order to make his recovery easier.

As always, keep our son in your prayers.

Sean

Matthew’s Webpage Selections

I originally set up this page as a daily (sometimes even anywhere from every other day to once a week, depending how stressed out I was) report on Matty’s condition whether it was good or bad. But since Matthew’s passing there is not really a big need to keep this as a status page anymore. My wife however came up with the idea of making this a living history of Matthew, whether it was, good, bad, or painful.

So I have gone through the e-mail and webpage archives and reposting it on this page, more will come later if I can find more from other sources.
